What Our Members Say

Don't just take our word for it. Here's what real Newport Centurions members think about playing korfball with us.

I had recently moved to the area and was looking for a new team sport to meet people and be active. What shined straight away was how friendly everyone was, how keen they were to teach beginners and to share their love for the sport. The cherry on the cake is the opportunity to learn by playing with the development team alongside a mix of experienced players. I also really enjoy that there are many socials organised throughout the year. It is truly an inclusive sport and club, I can 100% see myself continue for many many years

i was new to the area and wanted to push myself to take up a new activity and meet like minded people. a friend suggested korf and i figured id give it a go. being 40 i was initially concerned about fitness levels and lack of any korf ability having never played before but i was welcomed with open arms by the club. i signed up and was made to feel like a valued member of the team. everyone was super friendly, the coaches were great and there was a chance for everyone to play - no matter their ability. it's a very inclusive club with people of all ages and backgrounds and loads of socialising away from korf. unfortunately for me i had to retire because of injury but i really enjoyed my time there

I joined Newport in 3 years ago, can't believe how the time has flown since, but it has been the most welcoming and friendly club and sport I have ever played. I had no idea what korfball even was when I joined, but it was easy to pick up and I've really enjoyed learning from both the coaches and players. Everybody is really keen and enthusiastic and there have been loads of really inclusive social events organised around the year. For me it has been a great opportunity to make friends and get fit and cant wait to start my 4th season :)

Moving back to South Wales after so long away brought the social challenge of not knowing anyone. After a couple of trial sessions with the club I knew I'd found a group of great people who made me feel welcome and have since become firm friends. Why would I play anywhere else?

I joined because of my friends (Duane and H) as they thought I would enjoy it. Not knowing much about the sport, I thought I would give it a go. Having been in sports teams previously, there was always a "macho" and "competitiveness" but with Korfball, and with the mixed sex element, it's totally different and welcoming. You can be as competitive as you want or, not at all and that's ok. Initially I was terrible BUT over time it was giving me what I was looking for; exercise with a purpose. Being a lot older (double the age of some of the youngsters) I wasn't sure if I really belonged here. I also had a game in my first season, pitted against an incredibly experienced player, that I was so poor, I wasn't sure I wanted to continue. The positive mentality of the club, brilliant help from my team mates taught me early on that not to fear and keep on going, believing in myself. Here I am, starting my 5th season, in my early 40's coming off the best season I have ever played, being the coaches male player of the year AND the people's champion. Roll on the next season and back to training :)

I joined as I wanted to make some new friends and get active and that's exactly what happened when I joined the Centurions. They made me feel so welcome which was a surprise as I thought most sports teams were cliquey but everyone was so nice! The socials are really fun and I am keeping fit!

I joined after a life changing breakup, had to move, give up my dog to my parents and start over. The centurions were incredibly welcoming and although it took a while to settle in I genuinly enjoy spending time with every member of my team and Ive definitely made some life long friends

Matthew's Experience Joined September 2024

I joined because my parents founded Cardiff City and they had recently played a game and I got quite interested. I've loved it here ever since; from all the practice games to the socials, everyone made me feel welcome and I've stayed because they made the sport mean that much to me
